BCF recognizes that to effect real change, we must operate at the systems level, advocating for public policies – specifically those that affect education and neighborhoods – that can frame a better future for all of us. Join us in ensuring that our schools and neighborhoods get the resources they need with the following actions:
Support Equitable Transit Spending
Every County Executive or Mayor sits on the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB) and every year they vote to approve a 4-year package of transportation spending called the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). Unfortunately, the current draft TIP proposes spending 650 times more on highway capacity projects over ADA, public transit, bike and pedestrian projects. Read Central Maryland Transportation Alliance’s op-ed on Maryland Matters for more details and sign their petition telling County Executives and Mayors to say no to this out-of-balance spending.
Urge Officials to Support the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future
In May, Governor Hogan vetoed the bipartisan Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, a historic piece of legislation designed to ensure a high-quality education for every child in our state. The need for this legislation has never been more clear as the long-standing disparities in resources have been magnified by the COVID-19 crisis. Learn more on our Blueprint page and contact your elected officials to urge them to override the Governor’s veto and build a world-class educational system that works for all.
Take the Census!
The 2020 Census is happening now and your response matters! Census results determine how billions of federal dollars flow, supporting everything from school construction to road and bridge repairs to public services like police and fire departments. Baltimore currently has only a 51% response rate. Help us get the federal funds we need to build a better Baltimore region by completing the Census today at 2020census.gov or by calling 1-844-330-2020. Spread the word!
